Our vegetable garden and natural environment

We are so lucky to have beautiful vegetable gardens at St Lucia Kindy. The children are really involved in planting and caring for the plants as they grow. We are learning that the plants are alive need sun, water and care to grow. We have some really great watering helpers! Some insects have been a great source of interest for the children, who have looked closely at caterpillars, worms, ants and spiders.
Our centre is surrounded by a beautiful natural environment for the children to discover and explore. We encourage the children to learn to respect, appreciate and care for their environment.

We are all involved in learning about sustainable practices so that we can look after our world. The children help to recycle food scraps for the worm farm and compost so that our gardens will grow well. Our lovely shady playground inspires interest and we regularly reinforce the concept of looking after our world through plans for planting and maintaining our garden. The children love to help dig in and water the plants. We are often lucky to find worms and other wildlife too.
Every child is involved in reducing waste, saving water and electricity, recycling materials and respecting our environment.
The children have opportunities to connect with nature, learn about our environment and our impact upon it and learn how to care for our world.
They participate in learning skills that will become a foundation for a positive attitude towards a sustainable future.
